Hiking Trails, Achieving Goals, and Spiritual Practice
We’re told to set goals for ourselves, to dream big, and strive to achieve those goals. While I don’t question that advice, per se, my experience is that day-to-day my life isn’t about achieving big goals. Instead, I find that each day I’m taking a few steps, sometimes I’m not sure whether I’m moving forward or backward, and, yes, sometimes I fall. Recently, while hiking in the mountains, I thought about goals, the trek, my life, and spirituality. The hike helped me to make connections among things I hadn’t considered, including the spiritual dimension of life.
